It has a name!

After much hemming and hawing (though more hemming and hawing is likely to be had ...) the new project has a name-title-moniker attached to it, so I don't have to call it "the thing I'm working on."

Please meet "Tales of a Roaming Catholic: a 12-Step Healing Dance Memoir."

I call it "Roaming Catholic" for short.

Roaming Catholic is the participatory dance theater piece by my friend and cohort buddy, Mary Martin Lane.  Mary Martin and I are in a dance leader training program for the Dances of Universal Peace called LEAD.* One of our assignments is to select a deepening project and present it at our fall training retreat.

She decided to weave the personal memoir she was already working on with the Dances that were transformative for her.  Over the summer she started to field test it with small groups and it soon became clear that she could only do three or four sections in a 90-minute window.  We started to ponder how to present the experience in its full form.  A day-long retreat seemed about right.

Why am I so interested in supporting Mary Martin?  I think her story is universal in its struggle to reconcile and redeem painful memories of the past.  What makes it unique are the insightful stanzas of her poetry dancing with ancient Christian prayers, riding the waves of songs and dances inspired by the wisdom of many religious traditions, and transforming our hearts to joy.

Would you consider supporting Mary Martin and Roaming Catholic?  To produce this participatory dance memoir experience, we're expecting expenses for space rental, scholarships for attendees with financial limitations, compensating musicians, travel expenses, and promotional materials, Please consider contributing to our fundraising page at GiveMN.org.  The smallest donation of $10 on or before Nov 12, 2015 will be matched by my fiscal sponsor, Springboard for the Arts+, up to 25 donors.  More on other ways to support Roaming Catholic coming soon on another blog post.
