Sept 2: Guest Leading the Community Video Live Hymn Sing

 

Hi folks, 

We have some friends, Paul and Elizabeth Damico-Carper, who have been hosting a nightly live hymnsing and prayer time since the beginning of the pandemic to foster virtual community and support.  The response and following has been so supportive and delightful.  Folks from all over the country watch and singalong.  They also speak of how they look forward to it and it being the highlight of their day.  

We in the midwest have be in pandemic precautions for almost 6 months.  Which is a long time to be producing and sustaining a daily mini-service.  We're glad they are taking time off and inviting other folks to take the reins from time to time.  Music that Makes Community is happy to be hosting Wednesday evenings from now on.  And we're delighted that MMC has invited us to host the Hymn Sing this Wednesday.  Here's the deets...

We'll be leading one of my songs as it fits the Daily Lectionary text from Luke.  Can you guess which one it might be?

May 5: World Labyrinth Day Walk

 

Join your Highland Park neighbors and friends outside to Walk As One At One on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 1 p.m.  Learn about this "prayer path," how to draw one on paper, and walk the labyrinth created at National Night Out last August.  Invite others to this local World Labyrinth Day event.

Mar 1-31: Smallest Labyrinth Museum in St. Paul

Last fall, fellow Minnesota Labyrinth Network members Sue Swanson approached Tom Vetter and me about co-curating a Smallest Museum in St. Paul exhibit about labyrinths.  We said yes! 

We are happy to announce that in March 2018, The Smallest Museum in St. Paul will be showcasing labyrinths around St. Paul.  Come to Workhorse Coffee Bar and checkout the display that is just right of the front door. 

Details are being worked out, but you can expect pictures of local labyrinths, labyrinths you can trace with your fingers, and lots of interesting designs. 

There will be a artist reception on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 10 a.m.-noon.  Join us for hands-on demonstrations of creating labyrinths from a seed pattern, seeing a variety of designs, and trivia about the local labyrinth scene.

May 2017 Updates

The light is shifting this month.  Here's a heads up about some changes for some of our regular events: 

Sing Harmony, Hungry Hearts! (SHHH!) in the Library
We're moving the time an hour later, 7-8:30 p.m.!  It seems gathering folks to sing at 6 p.m. on a weekday late afternoon/evening seems to be a hard sell, especially for those who would be making a drive from the south or east.  Same location:  East Side Freedom Library, 1105 Greenbrier, St. Paul. 

Dances of Universal Peace
Regularly scheduled for the 3rd Saturday of the month, in May it falls on the same day my Korean family arrives, May 20.  There will be no Dances that evening, though I am considering moving it to a different night and time.  Stay tuned.

• Friday, April 28, 7-9 p.m. - Open Dances of Universal Peace Circle at Newton Christian Conference Center, Newton, IA.  Leading and supporting the Dances with flute, cajon, baritone ukulele, and shruti box!  It's not my debut, but it will be the culmination of a 2-day retreat focusing on musicianship. To be followed by ...

Reflections

The last month has been full with preparations for Palm/Passion Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter, weddings for family and friends, doing some music engraving for others (taking a composer's handwritten notes and formatting them in Finale, a music notation software program), as well as supporting an interesting labyrinth project (Labyrinth Around America) and my on-going hosting on Airbnb. 

Never a dull moment here!  I'm not posting here as much as I'd like, but follow me on Instagram where I'm likely to do a mini-post on what's going on.
